I can’t do pushups!! (and Healthy You Challenge Check In)

So, I decided to exercise using the Wii Fit today and discovered that I can’t do pushups! Not even the girly kind! I struggled for about 45 minutes trying to do a pushup without success. Maybe I’m doing it wrong? Surely I have to be able to do at least one pushup! But I just couldn’t do it! Ugh! I have got to figure out a way to get in some better exercise than just walking/trying to run! I can’t afford to join a gym. Plus, exercising in front of other people makes me nervous! (which is something I will eventually have to get over!) The Wii Fit is okay…. but it doesn’t really get me breathing hard, and I don’t really feel like I’ve had a workout afterwards. I have no exercise equipment, nor do I have room in my house for exercise machines, not to mention room in my budget! I do have some old exercise DVD’s somewhere…. I might have to dig those out… Anyone have any other ideas?

BTW, the Wii says that I have gained 1.5 lbs. 😦 I’m not going to take this too seriously though. I had just ate lunch when I stepped on, and drank two bottles of water! I still don’t like to hear that though! That means my unofficial weight at the moment is 229.3. Still not official until Thursday!

  1. Wall push-ups! They’re not “as good” as regular push-ups, but they’re a start. As for getting some extra (cheap!) exercise, could you spring for a couple of resistance bands? If not, I’ve seen lots of articles online that explain how to get a work-out with items around the house (like soup cans, bottles of water, etc). Don’t sweat the 1.5lbs yet: you still have two days to go!

Welcome to the Healthy You Challenge! 🙂

  2. I always had a hard time with push-ups so I’m not help there. But you can buy a jump-rope. You might feel kinda funny but if you’re really jumping rope it can have some awesome benefits.

Dance, just make a mix of your favorite songs and go for it.

And if you wanna spend a little more money I use the EA Active for the Wii. Seriously kicks my butt when I do it. I suggest the More Workouts one though, the first won’t work out your abs really.

  3. I was going to suggest wall push ups too! I started the hundred push up challenge thing (http://hundredpushups.com/) ad couldn;t even do one of the girly kind, so I’m using wall pushups at the moment. I’m hoping once I’m able to do a goodly amount of those I’ll be able to graduate to counter/chair pushups, to girly knee, to plank style.

  4. I know what it’s like to have a budget and no equipment. But you really don’t need it, it helps. I didn’t have any dumbbells until someone bought it for me as a present. Previously, I used my hardcover textbooks and put it in a backpack to lift weights. It works. The more books, the heavier it gets…and it doesn’t cost anything since I’m sure you have some already!

I do a couple simple exercises for my arms and legs for strength training, but it’s not that challenging…max 30 reps but it’s more than enough if you do them really slow. And for cardio, I used to jog, but I hated jogging. So I did anything that would keep me moving…dancing, running around the house, cleaning the house, power window shopping, etc…but for 2 hrs+. LOL. Not everything really counts as “exercise”, but you’d be surprised how tired you get cleaning the house.

Right now, I’m working on P90X since I got the vids now…and it’s helpful. But anyways, best of luck to you!
